Vascular and Interventional Radiology is a sub-specialty of radiology where the doctor perform(s) elaborate procedures to treat diseases, often with little more than a needle puncture to the skin. These procedures are done using ultrasound, CT scan and x-rays to look inside the body rather than performing a major surgery. Treating patients using the minimally invasive techniques minimizes risk to the patient and improves health outcomes. The recovery time is generally rapid. The range of diseases and organs that can be treated in this manner are extensive, are constantly evolving, and include systems from head to toe.
Working as a team with other specialists, interventional radiologists help with treatment of cancer, venous and arterial diseases, chronic pain, and bone and joint problems, among many other ailments. These procedures may be performed as an inpatient at our affiliated Baptist Hospitals. However, many procedures may be performed as an outpatient at the M&S Imaging Centers.
